There was jubilation at Gachie Primary School in Kiambaa Constituency in Kiambu County, when the best candidate in the 2020 KCSE exams in the country, Simiyu Robinson Wanjala came to motivate the pupils in the school.
Parents and teachers were joined by stakeholders on Tuesday to celebrate Wanjala who scored a strong A of 87.334 points at Murang’a High School, by singing victory songs in the school compound.
“I am a product of this school, and I found it important to share the joy of celebrating my good results together with these pupils. I would want them to know that they can make it as well,” he said.
Wanjala encouraged pupils to work without caring if their parents will be able to afford the next level of education, saying his parents felt the challenge of taking him to Murang’a High School owing to their low income.
He thanked businessman-cum-politician, Kariri Njama who sponsored his school fees and shopping through his Kariri Njama Foundation, which sponsors bright and needy students from the area.
“My parents had a challenge of taking me to high school, owing to their low income and their other children to care for. However, since a foundation led by a businessman heard the news, they came for me and they took me to Murang’a. They paid school fees as well as did shopping on everything that was needed by the school administration,” he revealed.
“Through this experience, I want to urge each and every one of you to work hard without looking at what your parents can do because God blesses your hard work using his angels,” he motivated the learners.
Njama applauded Wanjala for emerging top in the country, saying he has placed Gachie Primary School in a level it has never been. He urged education stakeholders to work out strategies to assist students to perform well.
“My foundation has over 30 candidates we are sponsoring. We thank Simiyu for working hard. Through the times I have interacted with him, I have learnt that he is a clever and hardworking person,” Njama said.
Njama is among the aspirants competing to be the Kiambaa MP in the much awaited by-election. He wants to replace the late Paul Koinange who passed away on March 31.
Simiyu, who was announced as the best KCSE candidate by Education CS George Magoha on Monday, reveals that he wishes to join the University of Nairobi and aspires to be a neurosurgeon.
