Boda boda operators in Nyamira County have raised concern over a number of students who have opted to operate motorcycles instead of returning to school after the early August elections break.
Speaking at Keroka town, Masaba North Boda boda Chairman Dominic Babu asked Chiefs and their assistants to collect data on the same and forward it to the ministry of education for action to be taken.
“Our sector has experienced a lot of school boys indulging in the riding trade at the expense of their studies,” he reported.
He said that majority of the school boys are hired by rogue motorcycle owners to conduct business for them.
Furthermore, the misled youth lure their female counterparts with the quick earned money and spend carelessly and indulge in cheap illicit brews.
“If this trend continues, we are going to end up with very many young parents who will struggle with the cost of living,” he observed.
Mr. Babu urged the youth to pursue their education first and get quality grades that will enable them get sustainable jobs for their families.
“The boda boda business can end but the knowledge gained from the acquisition of quality education stays with you permanently,” he advised.
He asked all boda boda stage chairmen to restrict students from conducting the motorcycle riding business.
