The Rift Valley National Polytechnic has announced a major shift in its academic calendar after officially moving the 2025 graduation ceremony from December15, 2025 to January 23 2026.
In a notice, issued on November 27, 2025, and signed by Principal and Council Secretary S.K. Chemoiwa, the institution cites “unavoidable circumstances” as the reason for the rescheduling.
The institution apologized for any inconvenience and promised to release an updated graduation programme in due course.
The abrupt change, however, has sparked a wave of mixed reactions among graduands and their families.
For many, the December date had already been circled on calendars, with plans set in motion weeks ago.
Some students expressed disappointment, saying the shift had thrown their preparations into disarray.

“I had already budgeted for everything—transport, outfits for my parents, even a small celebration at home,” one graduand said. “Changing the date this late means starting those plans all over again.”
Others raised concerns about travel logistics, explaining that January comes with its own financial pressures, especially after the festive season.
A few who had expected to start job placements immediately after graduation also noted they would need to adjust their timelines.
Still, a number of students welcomed the new date, saying it gives them more breathing space during the busy December holidays.
“Honestly, I prefer January,” another student shared. “December is too squeezed, and many relatives travel or work. January will allow us to celebrate calmly and with everyone present.”
Parents and guardians have also shown varied responses, with some relieved that the institution communicated early, while others worry about the extra costs the adjustment will bring.
Despite the ripple effects, the mood across campus remains hopeful. As graduands wait for further communication on the January event, many agree on one thing—whether delayed or not, their long-awaited accomplishment will still shine when the moment finally arrives.
