Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology closed after student unrest

Classes have been suspended indefinitely at Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) following unrest among students.

In a memo signed by the institution Principal SK Chemoiwa dated June 7, 2024 , the staff and students were ordered to vacate the school premises by 12.30pm today.

“Following the unrest witnessed on the night of Thursday June 6, 2024 and morning of Friday June 7, 2024, it is apparent that normal classes cannot be conducted due to the unconducive environment.

It is therefore decided that the college programmes shall be suspended indefinitely. All students are ordered to vacate the college compound by 12.30pm,” the memo reads in part.

The principal advised the students to remain at their homes as the institution decides on when to resume their studies.

The Nakuru –based institution didn’t give information to what caused the unrest among the students.

The memo was copied to the deputy principals’ administration and academics, the registrar, dean of students, finance officer, all heads of departments and subjects as well as the students union chairman.
