The Resource Hub for Development (RHD) has held a sensitization training of children’s right to an education in Kisumu County.
Speaking during the session, the director of RHD Peter Okeyo revealed that RHD has provided scholarships to over 200 children nationwide, including those in Kayole, Nairobi, and various parts of Kisumu.

He emphasized that education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to all children, regardless of their social or gender background.
“Parents should closely monitor their children’s activities during the extended holidays and safeguard them from potential threats, particularly young girls vulnerable to exploitation,” Okeyo stressed.
He further advocated for strict enforcement of laws concerning sexual offenses to shield children from potential harm.
“Children with special needs should not be discriminated against when it comes to the provision of basic rights like education,” Okeyo stated.

Additionally, he shed light on the plight of children residing in informal settlements who are at risk of early marriages and other forms of abuse, further emphasizing the need for enhanced monitoring and surveillance in these areas.
Lynette Awuor, a member of the organization, called for resolute action against those who abuse young children and urged the community to report instances of child abuse to the relevant authorities.
She also advocated for the reinforcement of child protection units at the grassroots level.
