When teachers are motivated, they become more energized and work tirelessly to uplift the standard of education of the leaners wherever they are in their teaching and learning institutions.
Fresh as it is in my mind the appreciation and the reward given to the Teacher of the Year Award (TOYA) Winner Elijah Ongarora Ogoti by Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) at the Bomas of Kenya podium cannot go unnoticed. It’s an event that cannot be forgotten in the near future.
As soon as Ogoti was given his car keys by the (KNUT) Secretary General, Mr. Wilson Sossion, I saw the tears of joy flowing freely on his cheeks.
The ululation and cheering that came from all the comers of the hall showed that truly Ogoti had been appreciated as the TOYA award Winner and more so the best teacher who does his work with dedication and less supervision.
Ogoti is a real study case of teachers who work tirelessly to impart knowledge and positive attitude towards the students in learning situations.
It is my belief that whenever a teacher is appreciated and rewarded he becomes more energized in delivering the required content.
Therefore I call other stakeholders in education sector to be telling teachers “thank you for your good work” and promoting teachers to the next job group teachers will make them more motivated and prove to all that indeed teaching is a noble profession.
