Revealed: Young headteachers dissatisfied with KEPSHA leadership at Sub-Counties

Leadership storm is gaining momentum in various sub counties as young headteachers decry of leadership deficiencies among its existing officials, Education news has established.

The situation is wanting especially in the North Rift region, where the reports indicates that recently KEPSHA official from the region was ousted from his position after majority of the head teachers who were mainly young turks passed a vote of no confidence against his leadership.

It was later revealed that the main reason for his ousting centred on extreme chest thumbing, lack of transparency on critical issues and sidelining some members on decision making.

It was further claimed that the same official had overstayed and failed to call for elections as required by the kepsha constitution.

“Our kepsha chair had on several occasions failed to call for annual general meetings for fear of being audited and subjected to elections as required by the constitution,” said a disgruntled youthful head teacher.

Further reports revealed that most subcounty kepsha chair persons have overstayed. It is claimed that when asked about elections, many raise flimsy reasons that have always seen them remain in office even after expiry of their terms

In some sub counties, kepsha chairs have served for almost 20 years. According to the Kepsha constitution, a chair is supposed to serve for a-3- year term which, depending on the members, can be renewed. It was however revealed that, most head teachers are not conversant with the contents of the kepsha constitution.

There are over 18,000 kepsha members across the country. Yearly, the members attend a themed national conference at the coast where key developments in education sector are discussed. The Head teachers also gets an opportunity to rejuvenate themselves after the year’s hectic activities in the schools. This year’s theme is, CBE transition: Celebrating achievements, strengthening leadership and shaping and shaping the future of learners.
