Return caning to discipline students, State told

By Our Reporter

Retired former Wajir District Education Officer Said Warsame has called on the Ministry of Education to reintroduce corporal punishment to tame unrest in schools.
He said caning will curb cases of unrest, which he blamed on poor parenting.
“Corporal punishment should be brought back to schools because indiscipline is becoming too much,” Warsame noted.
‘’They have imported impunity from society, riot and knowingly destroy school property”, said the 78-year- old retired education chief.
He added that corporal punishment isn’t meant to humiliate or injure children but to humanely correct them.
Backing the return of canning, Warsame said children must be disciplined and also blamed arbitrary decisions by some teachers leading to unrest across the county.
