Retirement not a death sentence, teachers told

Kapenguria member of parliament has challenged teachers who perceive retirement as a bad thing, saying  it is not a death sentence but a chance to realize new opportunities that are available in one’s private life.

Speaking during the retirement ceremony of Barnabas Chirchir at the Talau Comprehensive school’s grounds, Samuel Moroto advised that there are many other income generating chances that require patience, discipline and hard work to realize them.

Chirchir until his retirement has been headnteacher at Talau Comprehensive school having worked for the Teachers Service Commission for 37 years rising from a mere classroom teacher to a head teacher.

He received accolades for planting over 4100 trees in a span of one year which was the highest ever since the establishment of the school.

He was also praised by his deputy for being a role model and establishing a learner friendly environment that went a long way towards influencing good performance.

The former West Pokot governor, Professor John Lonyangapuo who was also present during the farewell of Chirchir, stated that the only sure way of changing the world was through Education.

He asked learners to work hard in their studies and use what the teachers had taught them to realize change in their lives.

Lonyangapuo asked all politicians to exercise tolerance and stated that differing on divergent opinions did not in any way mean that people were enemies and outlined that variety is the spice of life.

He wished Barnabas a peaceful retirement and asked him to continue doing good since it has very good returns
