Several schools and households in Ikombe, Yatta Sub-county in Machakos County are set to benefit from the restoration of the Mwitasyano Sand Dam, a key water source in the region.

On Tuesday, January 14, Yatta MP Robert Basil officially handed over the project to engineers, signaling the start of restoration efforts after the dam’s pipes were destroyed by heavy rains that caused rowdy waters from the Mwitasyano River.

“Today, I celebrate the successful handover of the Mwitasyano River Sand Dam Water Project site. Our engineers are now ready to begin their work, ensuring that the project will be implemented effectively,” Basil announced.

The MP highlighted that several schools, including Kimuuni Secondary School, Ikombe primary and secondary schools, and Ting’ang’a primary and secondary schools, are set to benefit from the project.

“This water project will provide access to clean and reliable water for these schools and the surrounding communities. I am excited about the positive impact this will have on education, health, and overall community well-being,” noted Basil.

The project is expected to significantly alleviate water challenges in the area, enhancing education, hygiene, and livelihoods.
