Education ministry’s top officers have been told to resign following the recent inconsistencies in the results of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCSE).

Kenya Teachers in Hardship and Arid Areas Welfare Association (KETHAWA) is taking the lead in these calls, with National Secretary Wangonya Wangenye saying if the duo does not resign, what is being witnessed now is the beginning of chaos in the exam system in Kenya.

Those targeted are Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu and his Basic Education Principal Secretary (PS) Dr Belio Kipsang.

Wangenye wondered how communication service providers would disseminate wrong results, arguing that what is got from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) for onward transmission is uneditable.

He said the Council ought to have done a series of trials first with all the service providers to ensure the systems work effectively.

“You cannot be releasing results then you are saying the one you are having or getting are wrong, (and) the ones in the portal are correct. Did Safaricom create its own marks?” wondered Wangenye.

Predicting that worse is to come in the KCSE, he said the top ministry officials must take responsibility and vacate office before it is too late.

Wangenye urged President William Ruto not to sit back and watch the Education system being trampled upon, encouraging him to take some bold steps if resignation is not forthcoming.

“How can one school score same marks in one subject? How can you substitute Kiswahili with Kenya Sign Language? We can play politics on anything but not on the life of our children,” added Wangenye.
