Keumbu town residents have been urged to monitor and report wayward students who sneak from school to go to participate in vices in the town.
Speaking to the public at Keumbu town, area Assistant County Commissioner Mr. Joshua Muthoka expressed concern over the erratic behaviour.
He said that his office had evidence of some bar owners who sold beer to students who lodged there at the expense of their studies.
“I have learned that some of these carefree bar owners harbour our children in their businesses,” he said.
The administrator asked all head teachers in the area to identify and penalise stubborn learners for early correction.
He also threatened to arrest parents who neglect to instill discipline in their children.
Muthoka ordered clan elders to work with community policing groups to file data of parents who do not offer their children parental guidance.
“The government is there to cushion the child against vices and this only works when there is cooperation from parents who play a pivotal role in this matter,” he advised.
According to one of the market masters, Mr. James Abuga, some sugarcane sellers at Keumbu town use the school going children to ferry the canes to the market.
“They pay a small token in form of money to our children after turning them into porters,” he claimed.
He narrated how he monitored one boy who bought beer for his girlfriend in a local bar after earning from the sugar cane traders.
