Residents up in arms over insecurity after murder of another teacher

The residents of Nyamira County have raised concern over increasing insecurity in the area after a teacher was found murdered and buried in a shallow grave in Kichauri village of Esise Ward.

Led by Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusah Momanyi, the residents asked the area County Commissioner Michael Lesimamu to hasten investigations as teachers and residents were now living in fear.

“It seems that there is a group of people determined to terrorize the teachers here,” lamented Ms. Lesimamu.

The body of the teacher, Getrude Nyaboke who was on attachment at Nyanderema Primary school was found dumped in the secret grave after missing for two weeks.

According to her maternal aunt, trouble started when the deceased differed with her newly married husband at their Esise home and vacated to stay on her own.

“We bought a gas cooker for her and advised her to live alone at Keroka town in order to avoid her quarrelsome husband,” reported the aunt.

During one weekend, they went to visit at her but missed her. A neighbour informed them that the Muranga TTC teacher was seen the previous day carrying her belongings and told them that she had resorted to return to her husband’s home.

The aunt and the deceased’s sisters went to her matrimonial home but they were not content with her explanation prompting them to report the matter to the police.

The police from Masaba North started investigation and found the body buried in the grave.

“We arrested the husband, Brian Rioba as the first suspect to assist with investigations and information that may lead to arrest of more suspects,” confirmed the area Police Commander Josephat Chacha.

The autopsy done at Kisii Teaching And Referral Hospital revealed that Ms. Nyaboke, 23, was strangled and hit severally with blunt objects on the head.

“It seems that the victim was hit several times by a group of people before she died,” confirmed Kisii Medical Officer Dr. Enock Ondari.

The police boss while asking the public to keep the peace in the meantime, vowed not to leave any stone unturned concerning the matter.

“I appeal to the public to remain calm and give us time to complete our investigations,” he said.

The incident comes barely a week after Rangenyo Girls’ school Principal was found murdered in cold blood.

Her body was found unconscious in her house on the school compound and rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.

She was buried at her home at Kiamokama village in Kitutu Masaba constituency of Nyamira county on Friday, October 28.
