Residents demand sacking of CDF committee over alleged embezzlement of funds

Gatundu North residents have expressed displeasure over the alleged embezzlement of the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) by the constituency’s development committee in a recent bursary issuance exercise.

Led by Wanjiru Kamau, Mary Wambui, and Kamau Kuria, the residents decried what they termed a well –orchestrated scheme to deny them their bursary rights.

They claimed that area MP Elijah Kururia allocated Ksh48 million for bursary, an increase of Ksh10 million from the previous year, yet hundreds of students still missed out on the bursaries, a situation that has forced them to stay at home for lack of school fees.

“They stole our money for personal interests. They’ve left us struggling to educate our children who are still at home to date. It is sad that we had to go through such strains which we never experienced in the former leaderships,” Kamau lamented.

Wambui revealed that she was told her bursary application form has issues but no clarification was made on the nature of the issues.

“I have gone to the constituency offices severally seeking answers to no avail and this has left me in a very bad state,” she explained.

While the irate parents are demanding for the immediate sacking of the alleged corrupt bursary committee officials, the committee chairperson Kimani Kagiri defended the committee, saying it has nothing to do with issuance of bursaries as its work ends at vetting applications.

“The residents should distinguish between the work of a bursary committee and that of the CDF committee. Our job is to receive forms, assess them and vet them before we hand them over to the main committee. If there was embezzlement of the CDF or the bursary kitty, it’s beyond us to respond but from where I stand, my committee did the right thing in the best interest of residents.” Kagiri said.
