Residents demand bumps, signage on Tala–Kilimambogo road after tragic accident

Residents gather outside Kwatombe Primary School where an accident happened killing one and seriously injuring another.

Locals and frequent users of the Tala-Kilimambogo road are urging the government to install speed bumps and proper road signage, especially near schools, to prevent further tragedies.

This comes after a fatal accident outside Kwatombe Primary School that claimed the life of one person and left another seriously injured.

The accident involved a pickup truck transporting ballast, which reportedly hit a pothole, suffered a tyre burst, and rolled several times.

Speaking to Education News, area residents emphasized the need for urgent safety interventions, citing the presence of schools along the road and the increasing number of accidents.

“This vehicle that caused the accident was overspeeding. But if there were bumps and clear signage, the driver would have slowed down, especially near schools,” said one concerned local.

Residents say the ongoing road construction should factor in the safety of learners and pedestrians, calling on both the county and national governments to act swiftly.

“Children cross this road daily, and without bumps or warnings, it’s only a matter of time before a school-going child is a victim,” another parent added.

They appealed to the relevant authorities to prioritize safety features such as speed bumps, zebra crossings, and school zone signs.
