Budalangi residents have made an appeal to scholars from the area to help in improving the education standards in the area by sponsoring projects in schools.
Led by Henry Bahati, the locals decried the low number of scholars who are sponsoring projects in the society.
“This area has produced many renowned scholars some of whom work abroad. It’s unfortunate that very few of them come back to help build our schools,’ they said.
The residents claimed that the education standards in the region were deteriorating due to poor infrastructure in schools and that the government alone cannot build enough classrooms and offices for teachers.
Speaking at Bulagu primary school where Bahati’s family members were putting up some classrooms and a teachers’ office, the residents said they were moved by the plight of pupils who were learning under trees.
“The school management has also requested us to help them put up a teachers’ office which we are going to build in December.” They revealed.
Most schools in Budalangi are in poor state due to floods and efforts by area MP Hon. Raphael Wanjala to rescue the situation by putting up classrooms through CDF funds have not helped much to salvage the situation.
Wanjala appealed for more funding to the CDF kitty saying that what they receive is too little to cater for the educational needs of the area.
“This area needs a lot of money because most of the schools were submerged during floods and we were forced to relocate some of them like Musoma secondary. Constructing classrooms is also expensive because a lot of materials are needed. That is why we are appealing to the National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF) to allocate us more funds to improve infrastructure in our schools.” He said.
Through NG-CDF Budalangi, four storey classrooms are being put up at Musoma, Peter Khabenga Rwambwa, St. Trezza Mundere Girls and Sisenye mixed secondary schools.
