The department of Education in Siaya County is finalizing plans to reshuffle Vocational Training Center Managers who have overstayed in one station for eight years.
Most of the managers have not been reshuffled since 2014.
The department is yet to compile a list of managers for proper balancing.
Siaya County Education Chief officer Henry Ouma Onyango made the announcement in Siaya town while meeting 18 managers for Siaya VTC and ECD coordinators.
He said the transfer is not meant to punish government officers but a strategy to enhance service delivery.
“It has come to our notice that many of us have been in these institutions for too long and they see them as mini-homes. As department we are committed towards enhancing service delivery that’s why we must reshuffle you to get new ideas that can transform the institutions to greater heights,” said Ouma.
He continued “The planned reshuffle it’s not going to be punitive but in good faith for us to realize effective service delivery.”
He at the same time announced that the department seeks to send auditors from the directorate to check if the equipment grants were being spent prudently.
“In 2019/2020, VTC’s in Siaya received grants worth Sh40 million and we were directed by National government to use the funds to purchase tools,” said Ouma adding that in order to ascertain whether funds was prudently spent, they will send auditors from the directorate.
The Chief Officer asked locals to form management committees at the VTC’s and enroll students for Vocational trainings adding that the equipment should be put to use.
“10 of the 18 new VTC’s constructed by County government are in the process of registration and students enrollment is on. We appeal to locals including boda-boada operators to opt for short courses and get technical skills that would be helpful in future. The education institutions will spur development and progress in the county”, said Ouma.
