Report: Nairobi fees for international education highest in Africa

Nairobi fees

Nairobi city is the most expensive city in Africa in terms of tuition fees for elite international schools, with fees ranging up to Ksh 4.1 million ($31, 000) per year according to an analysis by International Schools Database.

Out of six African cities surveyed, Nairobi has held its position as the most expensive destination in Africa for international education since 2019 when the first analysis was conducted. A trend that shows Kenyan parents are increasingly embracing international education.

Nairobi`s high fees have seen institutions charge more on average than European cities such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen.

“It (Nairobi) also offers the biggest spread of prices, from a minimum of Ksh 125,700 ($935) to a maximum of almost Ksh 4.1 million ($31, 000) per year,” the report, which recorded the fees as of December 2022, said.

Nairobi ranks position 57 out of 76 cities analyzed globally, while Addis Ababa, Johannesburg, Kampala, Casablanca and Cape Town ranked positions 64, 69, 70, 74 and 75 respectively.

Nonetheless, Africa still remains the lowest in terms of lowest cost for international schooling compared to other regions around the globe.
