Religious leaders asked to be agents of development in schools

Rift Valley Regional Director of Education Milton Nzioka. He wants religious and political leaders in the North Rift to be agents of development in schools.

Religious and political leaders in North Rift have been asked to be agents of development in schools so as to raise education standards in the six counties affected by insecurity in that area.

Rift Valley Regional Director of Education Milton Nzioka said these leaders should support government initiatives towards equal education opportunities across all regions in the country.

“Education is a right and all children should get it to better their future. We want all leaders in North Rift to support the government initiative of ensuring children receive education in North Rift,” said Nzioka.

Speaking at the regional headquarters in Nakuru City, Nzioka said education is the only tool that can be used to change the mindset of residents of North Rift and sensitize all youth on the need to embrace peace.

He said the government has constructed more classrooms and dug several boreholes through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and other security agencies to ensure learning continue as usual in the North Rift.

He added that the government plans to establish boarding schools in the region to enable children from various parts of the country to come together and coexist as they learn lessons of tolerance.

“The government will construct boarding schools in North Rift to enable school going children to attend classes continuously and learn to live together,” he added.

He also encouraged school heads, teachers and parents in those places to help create cohesion.
