Schools across the country have started to receive capitation for term two as promised earlier by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.

Sources within the Ministry of Education who spoke to Education News this morning have confirmed that the funds were released yesterday and they are expected to reflect in schools’ accounts from today onwards.

One of the Principal who spoke to Education News this afternoon has confirmed that the funds have hit the school account with each learner being allocated KSh4156.

It is believed that the amount disbursed to schools as this term’s capitation is about Ksh30 billion.

Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) acting National Chairman Willie Kuria who is also the Principal of Murang’a High School said that he has received the information but he is yet to confirm whether it has reflected in his own school’s account.

This is a huge boost for schools as majority of school heads have been lamenting of the delayed capitation which have seen them opt to run their duties on credit as others were thinking of sending students to half term break earlier than the stipulated time which is from Monday next week.

Machogu while speaking during the launch of the fourth National Education Sector Strategic Plan 2023-27 early this month promised that school will receive capitation before the end of June.
