Release NG-CDF funds, legislators appeal

Legislators have urged Treasury to release the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) money to support education projects development.

Gatundu North MP Wanjiku Kibe who spoke in  Kiambu town told Education cabinet secretary  George Magoha to push in the cabinet and Treasury to release the funds saying education is key development

“We as legislators have a problem as we have been pushed by our constituents. The little money we received has helped us a little bit to give bursaries but it not enough Students have been sent home especially the form fours thus inconveniencing  them a lot,” lamented Wanjiku.

The move by the government to have pupils and students go back to school was noble despite being in a covid-19 crisis.

“The government made a good decision to reopen schools. We thank our teachers for ensuring that our children are safe,” noted Wanjiku.

Kiambu MP Jude Njomo said the NG-CDF has gone a long way in helping education in the constituency where Sh65 million is injected into bursary funds.

“All these projects we have initiated and completed could not have been successful without CDF money.In Kiambu constituency when we allocate bursary money and other education projects we are left with Sh 65 million and we have four wards which means every ward gets over Sh16 million which goes towards funding education matters,” said Njomo.

Robert Masese NG-CDF board chairman said that most of the money goes towards building classrooms, laboratories, dormitories, halls, buy school buses and give bursaries.

 “We are looking to giving Sh10.1 billion to needy students in secondary, tertiary and to those who do not get HELB loans in universities,” he said, addint that the board is also building Kenya Medical Training Centres (KMTCs) in partnership with constituencies.

“70% of constituencies’ allocations to a tune of Sh137 million goes towards funding education and nationally it translates to Sh28 billion,” he added.
