Release JSS funds, Govt told

By Erick Nyayiera

The government has been asked to release funds to Junior Secondary Schools to enable effective takeoff.

Speaking in his office, KNUT Bondo branch Executive Secretary Mr. George Ajwang’ said that the government should consider releasing some money upfront to enable school administrations acquire materials required to begin operations.

He observed that majority of public JSSs still lack basic requirements such as chalks and stationary and therefore suggested that part of the Ksh 15,000 students’ capitation be released to help in kicking off operations.

Mr. Ajwang’ faulted the government for rushing the takeoff of Grade Seven arguing that as things stand currently, the first week is elapsing and nothing has been done apart from admission.

He also called on the government to consider motivating the head teachers who are currently overburdened handling JSS and if possible employ clerks to help them handle some operations.
