The countdown to the 2025 Trans Nzoia County Rugby Sevens is officially underway following the release of tournament pools ahead of today’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) county games. The eagerly awaited championship is slated for June 19 at the historic St Patrick Makunga grounds.
Twelve secondary school teams have been drawn into four pools, promising a fiercely competitive showdown of youthful talent and school pride.
Pool A features rugby powerhouse St. Anthony’s Boys alongside Linyu Secondary and Mubere Secondary, an intriguing mix that sets the stage for early fireworks. Pool B will see Sinoko Secondary, Kabuyefwe Secondary, and Matubei Secondary square off in what many are calling the ‘group of grit’ due to the physical playing style of the teams involved.

Meanwhile, Pool C brings together St. Joseph’s Boys, Makunga High, and Kapsara Secondary, three sides known for their tactical discipline and strong rugby cultures. Rounding out the draw, Pool D pits Friends School Bwake against Maziwa Secondary and Rafiki Secondary, a trio that could deliver some of the tournament’s most unpredictable outcomes.
With a spot in the regional showpiece at stake, the stakes could not be higher. The annual sevens tournament is a cornerstone of the county’s sports calendar, offering a platform for rising stars to shine and school rivalries to unfold before a passionate fan base.
Organisers have confirmed that preparations at St. Patrick Makunga grounds are complete, with fixtures set to kick off promptly on Thursday morning. Coaches and teams are expected to finalise their squads and game strategies as anticipation builds across the country.
As Trans Nzoia braces for a day of hard tackles, swift passes, and try-line drama, all eyes will be on which school will emerge as this year’s rugby sevens champions and book their ticket to regional glory.
