Regional Commissioner addresses insecurity issues amidst exam preparations

The Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mohamed Maalim yesterday visited Baringo County where he held a meeting with security agencies, local leaders and residents of the security prone areas. The meeting came as schools are in their final preparations for the national examinations which are set to begin from next week.

Over 1500 candidates in volatile areas of Baringo North and Baringo South are yet to determine their fate in sitting for their examinations following the merging of examination centers and rampant state of insecurity although the RC assured that all the examination centers will be heavily guarded by the security officers.

Concerning the illegal firearms in the hands of criminals, The RC during the meeting hinted of a forceful disarmament in Tiaty Sub-county and all other insecurity prone areas in Baringo county, saying enough time had been given to those owning illegal guns in the region.

Speaking after another consultative security meeting with locals at Loruk village in Saimo Soi Ward, Baringo North with the aim of eradicating the persistent cattle rustling in the region, the RC reiterated that the government is determined in using new tactical measures to capture the bandits.

“Already, I have been given an endless list of criminals from all the warring communities in the county, I want to tell parents that you had enough time to console with your children to surrender, so the time has come, if they get lost blame yourself,” he warned.

North Rift Economic Block (NOREB) Coordinator Joseph Makilap who is also Baringo North parliamentary aspirant while accompanying the RC together with the area sitting MP Wiliam Cheptumo and Bartabwa Ward MCA, Reuben Chepsongol pleaded with the government to walk the talk as many orders have come and pass, leaving stones unturned.

“I want president Uhuru Kenyatta himself to come to Baringo, check the situation for himself and bring a lasting solution. Why is he mute, and yet, he is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces,” questioned Hon. Cheptumo.

The Baringo North aspirant Makilap further pleaded with the government to provide basic commodities to the displaced families in the region affected by banditry.

The residents in the area also urged their leaders, especially Chiefs and Sub-Chiefs to hold Barazas every week in a bid to maintaining peace.
