The government is facing calls to reconsider the rules governing holiday tuition for students, aiming to enhance monitoring and control during the break.
Didakus Otieno, a concerned parent, expressed worries about the sighting of numerous secondary school students freely roaming Homa Bay town, some even entering bars and mingling with barmaids.
He highlighted the potential risks of such behaviour, citing concerns about unsafe sexual practices leading to various health issues.
Otieno emphasized that reintroducing holiday tuition could serve as a constructive alternative, keeping learners engaged in studies and preventing them from indulging in inappropriate activities.
He commended the weekend matches held at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, but lamented the high entry fees, set at Ksh 300, which he deemed unaffordable for students.
He urged the Kenya Football Federation to consider reducing the fees to Ksh 50, allowing students to spectate and pass their time in a positive manner, steering clear of drug abuse and other vices.
Lawrence Ogada expressed appreciation for the Kenya Football Federation’s efforts in organizing soccer matches in the region.
He noted that aside from exposing youths to professional players, providing them with role models to emulate and develop their talents, the matches also served as a platform for socializing among the region’s youth.
In a highlight of the Saturday Weekend Soccer Premier League, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Shabana FC of Kisii County played to a 1-1 draw.

Shabana took an early lead with Brian Michira scoring in the first 10 minutes of the first half.
However, KCB retaliated 25 minutes later, with Francis Kahiro equalizing the game.
Despite both teams attempting to outwit each other, the match ended in a draw, maintaining KCB’s third position in the league with 23 points after 13 matches.
Shabana FC, under the management of Oscar Kambona, who replaced Sam Okoth, moved from the 13th to the 14th position, gaining 11 points.
Okoth had been dismissed due to alleged failure to lead the team to greater success.
