Rarieda Constituency in Siaya County on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, witnessed a major boost to education development as area Member of Parliament Dr Paul Otiende Amollo handed out bursary cheques to secondary schools and commissioned a modern science laboratory at Kandaria Secondary School.
The MP and his delegation received a warm welcome from students, teachers, and local education stakeholders at the school during the event.
The occasion not only marked the disbursement of bursaries under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) but also celebrated the opening of a fully equipped laboratory expected to strengthen science learning in the institution.
Kandaria Secondary School, widely regarded as one of the top-performing day schools in Rarieda Sub-County, now has a modern laboratory that is set to enhance practical learning and improve performance in STEM subjects.
With many students transitioning to universities each year, stakeholders expressed optimism that the new facility will further elevate the school’s academic standards.
The MP pointed out the importance of education in the constituency, noting that bursaries account for a significant share of the CDF allocation in Rarieda.

“In Rarieda, the bursaries take a very big percentage of CDF,” he said.
The legislator further said that three additional laboratories are under construction within the constituency, part of a broader effort to strengthen infrastructure in local schools.
“CDF is really helping students. All students need education,” Dr Amollo stated, reiterating his belief that financial constraints should not limit access to education.
He also called for a review of government capitation, arguing that increased funding is necessary to support schools and sustain quality education delivery adequately.
Beyond the commissioning ceremony, the event also hosted a workshop for secondary school principals, Boards of Management (BOM) chairpersons, and Parents’ Association (PA) representatives.
The session was facilitated by Curriculum Support Officers, TSC Sub-County Director Mr Fredrick Mukabane, and Ministry of Education Sub-County Director Mr Stenly Shitanda, focusing on strengthening governance and improving academic outcomes.
Dr Amollo emphasised the need for continuous infrastructure expansion across schools in the constituency to keep pace with rising enrolment and evolving educational demands.
For many in attendance, the day symbolised more than just financial support and infrastructure development—it reflected Rarieda’s deep-rooted commitment to education.
