NACADA Ambassador William Rotich has called on the leadership of Kericho County to initiate establishment of drug rehabilitation centres in the area.

He urged the county assembly and executive to urgently come up with policies which will initiate and fund the centres adding that the negative impacts of substance and alcohol abuse coupled together with rampant poverty, disease prevalence and unemployment were becoming more evident with each passing day.

Rotich was among the guest speakers during the inauguration of the Kericho County Students Association (KECOTSA) at the Kericho High School.

“We note that coupled with the other challenges facing the county, drug and alcohol abuse makes the situation even worse as it affects economic growth which in the long run negatively affects the lives of our youth,” he said.

In addition, he said many drug addicts cannot afford expensive drugs which were needed to treat the addictions hence the need for quick and timely intervention from the county and national government.
