Basic Education PS Prof Julius Bitok has urged leaders to support President William Ruto’s administration, citing the hiring of over 100,000 teachers and increased education funding during a visit to Malava Constituency.

Leaders across the political spectrum have been asked to rally behind President William Ruto, who is prioritising education nationwide.

The principal secretary of basic education, Ambassador Prof Julius Bitok, has hailed the efforts by the government of Kenya through the Ministry of Education and the Teachers Service Commission, which have already led to the employment of 100,000 teachers within a very short period, surpassing the earlier employment conducted by his predecessors.

The Principal Secretary was speaking in Malava constituency when he visited Mayuge primary school in West Kabras ward, where he assessed the school following the public health department’s condemnation of its classrooms.

Bitok said it was only through the Kenya Kwanza government that education has been given its true meaning, with the massive hiring of teachers and an increase in the national budget. 500 billion to Ksh. 790 billion annually to cater for the higher enrolment and admissions being witnessed in learning institutions.

The ambassador called on the locals to support the current regime, as it has put in place tailor-made programs to uplift the country’s education sector, incorporating all learners, with or without the necessary learning support.

To ensure that this government takes education very seriously we recently heeded to the President’s directive of ensuring that there was 100% transition of grade 10 learners and with the assistance of national government administrative officers (NGAO), we were able to realise the target, these are just some of the many things this government is doing to ensure Kenyan children can access education” said Bitok.

Government Reaffirms Education Priority

He revealed that the government was planning to hire more teachers very soon, which will help address teacher shortages across the country.

This government has given education priority, and as Kenyans, we should support the leadership so that he can execute his mandates fully, since education is universal; let all come together to rally behind these endeavours for our children’s good,” he added.

His report, and that of Malava MP David Ndakwa, confirmed that the classrooms were indeed condemned, and he requested that the PS come and assess the situation and chart the way forward.

“We are happy for this government led by our able President William Ruto for putting matters of education close to his heart and leadership as well, and as the Malava people, we shall continue rallying behind him as he seeks his second tenure to complete more education projects he has initiated across the country to the fullest,” he promised.

During the visit, a total of Ksh 5 million was donated to construct new classrooms and provide a facelift for the school, as well as to create a safer, more conducive learning environment.

“This generous donation will go a long way in ensuring that learning continues at this school without interference, and we want to thank the government of Kenya for standing with the people of Malava constituency in matters of development, especially on education,” Ndakwa uttered.
