The Raila Educational Centre Primary school fraternity in Kibra is stoked after the Palestinian Embassy in Nairobi donated and furnished a computer laboratory.
The Palestine Ambassador to Kenya, Hazem Shabat flanked by former Kibra MP Ken Okoth and Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials donated 15 computers, furniture and a projector.
The school head teacher, Emmy Amugune said the lab would help learners and teachers acquire ICT knowledge and capabilities.
“As a fraternity, we are honored by the new progress in our school. We have been teaching ICT lessons using our phones and low-end gadgets but this donation will help expand the scope of learning,” she said.
“The world we are in today is computerized and through this, we will nurture our students in different fields. So we have to bridge that gap and empower these students at a very young age,” he added.
Initially, the school was a community school but it was made a public one through the use of CDF funds.
He lauded the Palestine Embassy stating they have been improving education standards in the area.
To foster partnerships between the Kenyan and Palestine governments, Shabat noted that the embassy is engaging others schools in Kibra to empower them and make them capable of delivering better education to the digital generation.
“We want to make sure our young people especially from the slum areas are introduced to digital literacy in early life as most of them access computers in high schools or university,” he said.
