Raila criticizes the new higher education funding model

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has voiced strong criticism against the  recent implementation of the new financial funding model for university students.

Speaking to parents, teachers, and pupils at Omobera Boarding Primary School in Kenyenya Sub County in Kisii, Raila lamented that the new model places additional financial burden on students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

“The system has raised school fees to a staggering Ksh380,000. Where will the child of a poor parent get this?” He inquired.

He questioned why the national government had yet to act on this crucial initiative.

Stressing the paramount importance of education as a development tool, he encouraged parents to actively support their children in acquiring quality education.

The former prime minister presided over a fundraising drive and contributed Ksh2 million for the construction of a modern dormitory for the school.

The gathering, which was hosted by local MP Obadiah Barongo was attended by Kisii County Governor Simba Arati, former vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga and Migori County Governor Dr Ochillo Ayacko, successfully raised over Ksh7 million .

Honorable Wanga took the opportunity to urge parents to prioritize the education of their daughters, highlighting the notion that educating a girl is tantamount to educating an entire nation.

The host headteacher Samuel Angima  appreciatED the leaders for their generous support and assured them that the school management committee would utilize the funds wisely.
