Questions as student leader goes missing days to elections

Kisii University students have raised alarm over a missing student leader who was also a contender in the forthcoming elections.

Led by their leader Mr. Emmanuel Nyasani the students say that their colleague went missing last week.

“He was supposed to address the delegates in preparation to University’s elections but he never showed up,” said Nyasimi.

The students identified their colleague as Mr. Kevin Oreko Nyamweya, who was vying for University Student President. His disappearance reported by the colleagues led to the postponement of the elections that were scheduled to take place on 5Th November 2021.

Nyasimi said that they reported the matter to the Kisii Police Station for investigation but the police effort has not yielded any fruits.

The concerned students appealed to the Cabinet Secretaries for Interior Dr. Fred Matiang’i and Education counterpart Prof. George Magoha to intervene in the search.

“We appeal to these higher offices to assist us find our colleague,” appealed Nyasimi.

The father of the missing student Mr. Nyamweya said he was briefed about the incident by the landlord of the residence his son stays in. He then travelled from Nairobi to Kisii to ascertain the welfare of his son at the university.

“I contacted both the University and the police who confirmed that my son had not been seen for a week,” affirmed the parent.

The stunned parent appealed to the police to carry thorough investigation on the whereabouts of his son.

The father who said he comes from Nyamira County, said that he has paid visited all their relatives to check if the son was with them but he could not find him.

“I now leave everything to God because He is the one who gave me the boy,” he said.

Kisii County Police Commander Mr. Francis Kooli admitted that the disappearance of the student had been reported to his offices. He promised to inform the concerned bodies any time they find Mr. Oreko.

The police chief appealed to anybody with relevant information about Oreko to share with the police.
