Pwani Varsity celebrates academic excellence as it marks 13th graduation ceremony

Pwani University yesterday marked 13th graduation ceremony, a landmark event celebrating academic achievement and innovation.

The event, held at the university’s main campus in Kilifi, saw 2,327 graduates conferred with degrees, diplomas, and certificates in various disciplines.

The graduation ceremony marked by cultural performances, academic fanfare, and emotional moments was graced by notable dignitaries, including Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule, Prof. Abdulrazak Shaukat, the Principal Secretary for Science, Research, and Innovation, and Fikirini Jacobs, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Youth Affairs & Creative Economy.

Their presence underscored both governments’ commitment to youth development and educational advancement.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohamed Rajab expressed pride in the institution’s growth and its role in transforming higher education in the coastal region.

Deputy Governor Chibule congratulated the graduates, commending their resilience and determination in achieving this significant milestone.

“This graduation marks not only the end of an academic journey but the beginning of a new chapter filled with promise. The theme, ‘Transforming Education for Global Excellence,’ resonates deeply with our vision in Kilifi County—to nurture an empowered, skilled, and globally competitive society,” she said.

Chibule reaffirmed Kilifi County Government’s dedication to education and youth empowerment, emphasizing ongoing efforts to align with institutions like Pwani University to equip young professionals with practical skills and opportunities.

“We remain steadfast in strengthening our collaboration with Pwani University to create meaningful opportunities across all county departments. By investing in education, we are investing in the future of Kilifi,” she added.

Prof. Shaukat, in his address, urged graduates to become ambassadors of innovation and research in their respective fields, while Hon. Jacobs emphasized the role of the creative economy in shaping a sustainable future for Kenya’s youth.

As the curtains fall on another academic year, Kilifi County and Pwani University continue to strengthen ties, paving the way for a future where education remains at the heart of development.
