Members of the civil society in Kisumu now want the County Assembly to fastrack the envisaged gender Act.
Led by the director of Kenya Female Advisory Organization Ms. Ester Oketch, the group said the Act once passed will ensure that gender issues are mainstreamed.
Speaking at the Mama Grace Onyango Social Center during the launch of the Gender Mainstreaming Policy document, Oketch said that the Act will ensure that budgetary allocations towards gender based issues are well captured during budgetary allocations.
Oketch commended the Kisumu County Government for taking a lead towards mainstreaming gender issues.
She said that youths, women and people living with disabilities stand to benefit a great deal via the policy.
Kisumu County Assembly speaker Elisha Oraro said members will go an extra mile in backing the gender based issues as the assembly has always been in support.
The Executive Committee Member in charge of Education Mr. John Awiti urged MCAs to work on the Act.
Awiti said that will ensure targeted groups benefit via budgetary allocations to relevant departments.
He said the affected group can only benefit once their aims and aspirations are captured via a policy.
Awiti said the Act will ensure that vulnerable groups such as youths and women together with the old and people living with disabilities are taken care of.
He said those with special needs will also be factored in the Act once it comes to fruition.
