TVET Permanent Secretary (PS) Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria has defended the government’s move to undertake the export of labour to foreign countries.
She said that the move will bolster efforts to support the youth to get gainful employment and utilize skills attained from TVET programmes.
Speaking at the Rift Valley National Polytechnic during the graduation ceremony of 2,903 students, Dr. Muoria said that those criticizing government efforts are not doing so in good faith and only intend to achieve short-term political gains.
“It is not slavery as those opposed to it are saying, we are trying to ensure that as many youths as possible get opportunities within the global village to play their part and ensure that we get more resources into the country,” she said.
Dr. Muoria said that the Ministry will continue to explore opportunities for young people with technical skills to create a more robust workforce.
“I went to China recently and I was shocked that young people can produce a car in 59 seconds, it’s the kind of dreams and hopes we want for our young graduates,” she said.
The Polytechnic Principal Sammy Chemoiywo said that TVET graduates will play a critical role in the government’s ambitious transformation programme.
