The Permanent Secretary, State Department for University Education and Research Ambassador Simon Nabukwesi has lauded Mount Kenya University in the progress made towards research and regional development.
The PS was speaking at the 20th graduation ceremony held at Mount Kenya University’s main campus in Thika town after inspecting the newly launched Conference facility named after the third president of Kenya Mwai Kibaki on Friday.
PS Nabukwesi noted that the naming of the Mwai Kibaki Convention Center shows that the school embraces nationalism.
“The naming of this venue after the retired 3rd President of the Republic of Kenya, Hon Mwai Kibaki by Mount Kenya University is a show of nationalism as well as a mark towards the integration of the East Africa Community,” he added.
The PS also lauded MKU for its continued efforts in the partnership with Makerere University towards research in human health launched three years ago.
“In this regard, I laud Mount Kenya University’s support of the joint fund of Ksh. 10,000,000 (USD 100,000) launched in 2018 for joint human health research between Mount Kenya University and Makerere University College of Health Sciences,” PS Nabukwesi said.
On Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) where teachers will be needed to be taken through a refresher course, the PS thanked the University for being among the first four universities to offer the Teacher Professional Training (TPD) course for teachers.
The PS congratulated the institution for equipping the students with relevant skills, values and knowledge that are commensurate with the demands in country’s economy.
He asked graduands as a sign of moral duty; to uphold the highest levels of ethics, integrity and patriotism.
