Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has issued a stern warning against sexual abuse in schools, stating that those found culpable will face the full force of the law.
Bittok emphasised that the government will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment within learning institutions.
“The code of conduct for teachers and the children’s protection laws are obvious,” he said. “Anyone indulging in such misconduct will be dealt with decisively.”
Speaking in Kapkoros, Nandi County, e cautioned school heads and boards of management against resolving such cases outside the judicial system.
“Settling matters of sexual abuse out of court is illegal and unacceptable. We will not allow such practices to continue,” Bitok stated.
The Principal Secretary also encouraged students and victims to speak out, assuring them of government support in their pursuit of justice.
“We urge victims and anyone feeling unsafe to come forward. It’s the only way we can ensure accountability and protect others,” he said.

Bitok revealed that the government has implemented comprehensive measures to safeguard learners and prevent harassment in schools, calling for collaborative efforts from all stakeholders.
“This is not a fight for the government alone. We need parents, teachers, communities, and school administrators to work together to create safe learning environments,” he added.
His remarks come just a day after a group of former students from Alliance Girls High School held a protest over alleged abuse at the institution. The demonstration has sparked nationwide debate and raised questions about student welfare and safety in schools.
In response to the allegations, the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) Chairman confirmed that an Adhoc committee has been formed to investigate the claims. The committee will include representatives from the Ministry of Education, Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), and the school’s alumni network.
“The matter is being taken seriously,” the PTA Chairman said. “We are working closely with all stakeholders to get to the bottom of the allegations and ensure justice is served.”
As investigations begin, education authorities are under increased pressure to ensure accountability and the protection of all learners across the country.
