The Basic Education Principal Secretary, PS Prof. Julius Bitok has assured of timely release of capitation funds to 45, 000 schools, noting that the Ministry of Education, (MoE) is in talks with Treasury to guarantee smooth disbursement.
He spoke at the 2025 WAAW STEM Fellows Summit, a gathering that empowers young African women to lead through STEM.
PS also said that the government has put in place mechanisms to ensure a smooth transition for 1.2M learners into senior school, with 60% expected to pursue STEM, assuring parents that 2.4M spaces are available and every learner will get a place.
He added that MoE is also upgrading NEMIS to KEMIS, a work in progress aimed at capturing, in real time, the number of students per school to ensure accurate data and transparent allocation of resources, while adequately sending capitation based on the true numbers of learners.
