Professionals have been encouraged by Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno to be on the forefront in fostering education matters in their regions.
The MP regretted that most professionals have neglected their role as advisors in their communities as a way of giving back, resulting in stagnation in their immediate neighbourhoods.
“AS professionals we should be on the forefront in improving infrastructure in all our educational facilities, starting from those of higher learning, tertiary, secondary, primary and to our ECDEs,” he added.
He said this while giving a keynote speech during the annual general meeting of the Kipsigis Professional Forum, which was held at Kericho Primary School.
He observed that most professionals have taken the back seat in educational development of their communities, leaving those without the relevant training to initiate reforms, which later on are not up to the standards.
He was flanked by the forum chairman CPA Bernard Yegon.
“How is our education in Kericho and Bomet and the diaspora? In every community, it is the professionals that assist in the creation of wealth; have we done our part?” he posed.
Ng’eno challenged the participants to take time out of their busy schedules to check on how equipped schools and colleges are and not leave everything to the political class.
He welcomed the idea of the development of the various technical and vocational colleges and urged the local community to embrace them by enrolling their children in the institutions.
The legislator told the leaders to take athletics seriously and initiate the necessary support infrastructure for the establishment of training camps.
“Athletics is currently a multi-million-dollar industry and we should take the lead in assisting our youth to benefit through early and proper training,” he said.
