Prof Nathan Ogechi has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor at Kisii University.

This was confirmed by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Sunday.

Machogu made the announcement during an Interdenominational Church Service at Nyanturago grounds in Kisii where President William Ruto was in attendance.

Ogechi will replace pioneer Vice Chancellor Prof John Akama who retired a month ago after serving at the helm of the institution for 10 years.

Following his appointment, Mobamba Village in Nyaribari Masaba burst into the roads with ululations and dances to celebrate their own son.

“The government has done well to pick my firstborn child to hold this great position in society.” Said his Mother Mrs. Joyce Moraa Ogechi.

She said Professor Ongechi has demonstrated a zeal for success since his childhood.

Prof Ogechi has served as a Graduate Assistant, Tutorial Fellow, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Full Professor in the Department of Kiswahili and Other African Languages within the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Moi University.

“The government has confidence in Prof Ogechi to take over the leadership of the University because of his long experience in teaching and leadership.” Education CS said.

Ongechi has held university management positions as a Head of Department for six years, Dean of School for two years and acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for twelve months.

Prof Ogechi has been a substantive Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Student Affairs for five years and, since October 2016, he has also been acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Planning and Development.
