After one-and-a-half-year wait, Moi University has finally got a new substantive Vice Chancellor Prof. Isaac Sanga Kosgey.
The outgoing acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Laban Ayiro, who served since September 2016 handed the mantle to Prof Kosgey recently in a ceremony, presided over by chairman of Council, Dr. Jeremiah Ntoloi ole Koshal, at main campus in Kesses
“I wish to thank Prof. Ayiro most sincerely for ushering us the new University Council in and being very honest about the state of Moi University. Challenges are not very good things to talk about but the conversations we have had have shown than we can address them,” said Dr. Koshal.
“The general outlook of the university has improved. As Prof. Ayiro goes, he should know that his contribution to Moi University will never be forgotten. To the incoming VC, the things you talked about during the interview; now you have the opportunity to put them into practice,” Dr. Koshal added.
In his handover remarks, Prof Ayiro thanked God for the opportunity to serve Moi University as acting Vice Chancellor and for giving him the tenacity of mind and vision.
“It has been a great experience working for Moi University in acting capacity as the Vice Chancellor for the last one-and-a-half years. I have no regrets. I cherish and love this university and even after I have left this office, I will still be teaching my Masters and PhD students. I promise to give my successor all my support,” said Prof Ayiro.
Prof Ayiro congratulated Prof Kosgey for being appointed the Vice Chancellor, noting that he has no doubt that his management will steer the institution a notch higher.
Prof Kosgey, in his acceptance speech, noted that it was a great opportunity for him to serve the university and expressed his gratitude to President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and Education Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed for the appointment.
He applauded Prof. Ayiro, calling him a brother who he had already established a rapport with despite being competitors for the top job. The new VC was unveiled before the University Senate by the chairman of Council.
