Private schools in Kiambu dominate top spots in the region

Kenya Private Schools Association Chairman Charles Ochome. Private schools in Kiambu County occupied top spots in 2023 KCPE.

Private schools in Kiambu County dominated the top spots in the region in the 2023 KCPE, most of them scoring high averages and producing the best candidates.

Lily of the Valley Junior School in Red Hill, Kiambaa Sub-county, for instance, attained a mean score of 371.

Dwayne Muiruri, the top scorer with 415 marks, was celebrated by the teachers and parents who had gathered in the school to congratulate the 40 students who sat their exams and performed well.

“I had prepared well with the help of the teachers and my parents. The teachers had taught us to focus on the questions, which I did and emerged victorious,” Muiruri said.

He said that he hopes to be enrolled in Mangu High, his dream school.

Washington Abok, the school head, said their focus now shifts to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which he said they had envisioned some years back and implemented it.

“The school is 100 per cent compliant in terms of CBC and we thank the parents, stakeholders for the support and I think we are on the right track,” he said.
