Teachers working in private schools in Taita Taveta County have requested Kenya Private School Association (KEPSA) to intercede on their behalf to the County Government to factor them as vulnerable group and at least cushion them during the trying and tiring times of Covid-19 pandemic

Speaking to Education News, teachers said that they are presently trying to make ends meet in times of financial impotence that knocked on their doors when learning institutions were closed in mid-March due to the outbreak of Corona virus.

“We are appealing to KEPSA to intervene and save the sinking boat since we are no longer in a position to pay our bills, we humbly request KEPSA to talk to the County Government of Taita Taveta to cushion us as we wait for the reopening,” said their representative .

Most of them told the press that they have not been reached by their employers from the time schools were closed and their efforts to reaching them also hit the brick wall, salient signs of financial relationship gone awry.

The county KEPSA boss Mrs. Rozina Kitatu while reacting to the teachers cry said that the pandemic has not only affected the teachers but also the school proprietors who have been depending mainly on the fee from the parents.

“Parents only pay for the services they get but unfortunately they are presently staying at home with their children hence the school owners income stopped the time schools were closed,” she said

However, Mrs. Kitatu appealed to the County government to allocate fund from the Covid-19 pandemic kitty to help them cushion the affected teachers.
