Principals warned against religious discrimination

The Government has warned school principals against discriminating students on religious grounds.
This comes after Nguviu Girls High turned away a Form One student of the Akorino faith who had turned up for admission wearing a religious headgear.
Embu County Commissioner Esther Maina has ordered the school to re-admit the girl while issuing a warning to principals that action will be taken on those who discriminate against students.
The trend has been going on for many years mostly in schools which are sponsored by various churches.
Speaking after the launch of text books worth Sh63 million at Kangaru School, Ms Maina said that is unfortunate for a school head to turn away students because of their religion.
“Every child has a right to join any school in the country irrespective of their faith. The State will take stern action against school heads who violate the Education Act. I urge school heads to adhere to the rules and regulations issued by the ministry of education,” she said.
