Anxiety is building among the principals whose schools have been tasked to host next week’s senior schools retooling exercise across the country. Education News is privy to information that most of the identified schools are faced with cash crunch and are compelled to go extra mile to solicit for funds to run the exercise.
All is not well with other colleagues whose teachers have to attend retooling in various selected venues in the sub counties. The principals during such training have always catered for teachers fare an issue most are claiming to be an uphill task occasioned by second term capitation deficits.
“With dry accounts, I am still trying to think how my 7 teachers will attend the training venue which is 26 kilometres away,” said a frustrated Mr Aziz,,a principal of a financially struggling school.

His fears are replicated among his colleagues who feel that since the programme is facilitated by the Teachers Service Commission, teachers should dip into their pockets as reimbursement will be made later.
TSC is rolling out retooling of senior school teachers on competency based curriculum beginning next week. The five day exercise is targeting a total of 51,360 regular teachers in 856 venues across the country. A total of 360 special needs teachers from prevocational, vocational and special schools following ages based curriculum will also be retooled.
The master trainers and trainers of trainees will be drawn from KISE, MoE, TSC, KICD, KEMI and Teacher training colleges. Already, Tots are concluding their training this Friday in readiness for next week’s retooling.
