Principals meet to mourn school head murdered in cold blood

Secondary school principals from Nyamira and Kisii counties convened at Rangenyo Girls High School to mourn its late Principal, Lydiah Omwoyo who was murdered in cold blood on Monday.

Led by Nyabururu Chief Principal Mrs. Joyce Orioki, they asked the Police to intensify investigations in order to provide closure and justice to the family of the slain principal.

“We petition the police to work with all effort to arrest the culprits behind the heinous act and arraign them in the court of law,” pleaded Mrs Orioki.

Nyamira County Heads Association Chairman Mr.George Onkundi asked the principals to maintain peace and order as they waited for the police findings

He praised the deceased as a leader who loved her colleagues as she valued teamwork.

Mr. Onkundi asked the teachers to brave the incident and also comfort the girls as they mourned their Principal.

“At such a time filled with sorrow, I know there is a lot of confusion but I call upon the teachers to trust in the Lord to strengthen and help them and their students to come to terms with the sudden demise of Madam Lydiah,” he appealed.

Nyamira County TSC Director Catherine Mwenda eulogized the slain principal as a woman who held the interest of her students and teachers at heart.

“I have stayed in this County for a while but each time I met with Madam Omwoyo, I saw a teacher who loved her work because she discharged her duties with passion,” she said.

Mrs Mwenda promised that her office will work hand in hand with security organs as they investigate the cause of death.

The late Principal was transferred to the the school seven years ago.

Since she reported, Madam Omwoyo gradually transformed the school into a performing school that recorded a mean score of 7.4 in the 2021 KCSE examinations up from 4.8 in 2016.

Her body was found in her house with many injuries on her hands and thighs and was rushed to Oasis Hospital in Kisii town where she was pronounced dead shortly after  arrival.

She was then transported to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

Nyamira County Police Commander Mr Kimani Kitugo confirmed the death but briefed that no suspect had been arrested so far but appealed to the public to volunteer information that might lead to the arrest of her killers.
