Principals concerned of politicians interfering with exams

Some principals from Kenyenya in Kisii County have condemned political interference in their schools during the ongoing KCSE examinations.

Speaking to Education News on condition of anonymity, they said candidates need ample time devoid of external interference.

The bitter complaints came shortly after the area MP Professor Zadoc Ogutu visited Mokubo Secondary School candidates on Saturday to wish them well in their examinations.

The principals said they were not against the visit by the MP but wondered where he had been all the time students had been gearing up for the exams only to show up at the peak of their concentration.

“He has never visited our schools even for infrastructural projects,” remarked one principal.

However, the MP defended his action, saying it was a routine visit during the weekend.

“These are our children and as a parent and leader, it is my obligation to share with them at the time of need,” he said.

The MP asked teachers not to mix education with malice.

Ogutu, who sits in the parliamentary committee on education, highlighted the number of education projects he has supported in the area.
