Secondary school principals in Kirinyaga County have asked the government to allocate adequate funds to infrastructural development in schools for effective teaching and learning.

Led by their KESSHA chairperson Joyce Waruru, the meeting held at Travellers Beach Hotel in Mombasa revealed that their schools still have old buildings which are in poor condition and urgently need renovation, rehabilitation, or replacement with modern buildings.

The principals further disclosed that their schools are currently facing challenges of inadequate Science laboratories, classrooms and dormitories, among others, pointing out that the situation has inconvenienced daily learning activities.

“Availability of adequate funds in schools would speed up the implementation of school development projects,” Waruru said.

At the same time, the school heads urged the government to hasten the disbursement of capitation grants to enable their schools to operate in a more efficient and effective way.
