St. Francis Xaviour Shikoti Mixed Secondary School principal Wilfred Barisecha fears that congestion would lead to severe injuries in case of an inferno in schools.
Speaking in his office, the principal said serious injuries occur when evacuating students and property due to commotion that ensue in such cases.
The Principal lamented that the government has allocated more students than the space available to the school.
“The government has allocates four times the recommended number of students and the Ministry of Education has at the same time warned schools against sending away students for failing to pay lunch fees, leading to the school management borrowing from suppliers to ease the pressure,” he said
He urged the government to provide and create more facilities in schools to facilitate the 100 percent transition.
Barisecha revealed that lack of a dining hall forces students to be served and eat under the scorching sun; he therefore called upon the government to take the matter seriously as the school has high enrolment.
As CBC takes effect the school is allocated two streams which pose a big challenge on high enrolment, lack of classrooms and teachers in the school.
The principal appealed to the area MP. Bishop Titus Khamala, through CDF, to help put up more infrastructure at the school to create a conducive environment for the learners.
