Amakura Secondary School in Mekene ward of Borabu Constituency in Nyamira County has not closed down because of shortage of students.

The school Principal Mr. Isaac Motanya was reacting to what he termed as fabricated information saying that learning at the institution was still on and that some known people were out to tarnish the good name of the school.

Mr. Motanya said that the school which was opened by the first lady Mrs. Margaret Kenyatta more than seven years ago has grown steadily to achieve its targets in the National examinations.

“I have been in the institution for the last five years and I have seen it grow both in terms of infrastructure and student performance,” he said.

The principal gave the break-down of the performances, revealing that in 2019; the institution presented 80 candidates for KCSE examinations and attained a mean grade of 6.0, taking 12 students to University.

He also briefed that in 2021, they took 10 students with direct entry to university but their mean grade dropped to 5.0 from 6.0 in 2019, something that they blamed on the adverse effects of Covid-19.

He appealed to the parents to bring their children to school to learn because, it was the government policy to provide quality education to every child in the country.

The principal thanked Borabu Constituency MP Ben Momanyi and Sasini Tea Packing Company, whose frequent financial assistance have seen the school improve its infrastructure.

The principal appealed to parents with children who have special talents in football, athletics and drama to take them to the school as they offer partial sponsorship to such caliber of students.
