Nyamininia Secondary school in Gem sub county, Siaya county has unveiled a programme that will see bright but needy students remain in school.

School principal Judith Wamocho who was touched by the plight of the students says the school is running a funds drive where they are raising cash to aid poor but bright students to continue their education.

“I am staying with some students in my rental house near the school,” she said.

The principal said that when she was transferred from Ndivisi Girls High school, she refused to sit pretty as the ghost of poverty presided over students’ dreams thus she came up with the programme to ensure they stay in school.

She thus asked stakeholders and well-wishers to come through and support the drive by donating cash and basic amenities in addition to providing full or partial scholarships to some students.

Wamocho further called on the county government to increase NGCDF funds so as to sponsor more students.
